Beyond the Lock was born out of the shared passion for escape rooms that ignited in Jennifer and Joshua's hearts. The story began when a young Joshua, at the tender age of 6, experienced his first escape room adventure alongside Jennifer. The thrill of unlocking mysteries and solving puzzles captivated Joshua, but the challenges were a bit overwhelming for his young mind.
Determined to share the joy of escape rooms with her son, Jennifer embarked on a mission to create an escape room experience tailored for a 6-year-old. She transformed their home into an imaginative realm filled with excitement, locks, and puzzles suitable for young adventurers. Jennifer's creativity flourished as she designed multiple escape games not just for Joshua but also for his friends.
The success of the home escape room led Jennifer to expand her vision. She began crafting portable escape games suitable for larger groups, including mom's groups, birthday parties, and classes ranging from elementary to high school. Throughout this journey, Jennifer discovered a newfound passion—creating memorable escape experiences for others.
In October of 2021, Jennifer and Joshua decided to venture back into the world of "real" escape rooms. Joshua, with his youthful exuberance, christened their team "Escaping Kittens." Since then, they have tackled around 20 rooms as a dynamic 2-player team, occasionally joined by friends and loved ones.
As they explored the escape room community, Jennifer and Joshua noticed a common challenge faced by families—the difficulty in finding truly family-friendly games. Many escape rooms featured elements that were not suitable for all ages, such as darkness, required separation, and unexpected loud noises.
This realization fueled the birth of Beyond the Lock. Our mission is simple yet profound: to create escape rooms that offer a perfect balance of challenge and engagement for both adults and kids, all without the scare factor. We believe in providing an inclusive and enjoyable experience for families, ensuring that everyone can join in the excitement of unlocking mysteries together.
